Big Size Dogs- Why do They Make Good Pets?

Anushree August 2019

The large hound-sized dogs may look terrifying but honestly, they make great pets. Their affability, trainability and reliability are better than some of the small sized breeds. Undoubtedly, these dogs need a bigger space to live in and provided that you can give them that, you should get one of these big size dogs. Believe it, they only look terrifying. Something must be the reason that a Great Dane was loved deeply by our Big B (Amitabh and Shanauk) and Salman Khan owns big breeds like Dogue de Bordeaux.

Some of the best reasons for getting these as your paw friends are stated below-

Patience

With great size comes great responsibility. Maybe, I got the dialogue wrong, but hope you got the message right. These dogs are so content with their build and position in the world that they do not crave for more. This satisfaction yields patience.  They can be fearsome bullies, but they are not. And for the same reason, these dogs are so friendly and fit in well with the kids and the elderly. They are called gentle giants for a reason only.

“Many big dogs tend to feel secure in their own position in the world—literally and figuratively—and they often don’t feel as compelled to prove themselves.”- Denise Flaim.

Benefits from the size

There is no denying the fact that no matter how they are from inside, they are hound-sized giant dogs by the looks. When you own such big size dogs, then the ‘beware of dogs’ sign at your main gate also makes sense. Security becomes easy with these hooman-lovers. You can go around to explore the world worry-free. Also with these dogs by your side, there is an added strength to your personality as well. They protect you as well as dignify your aura.

So Much to Love

SO MUCH TO LOVE. Literally. These big size dogs act so cutely and sleep in our laps forgetting how big they are. Without a second thought, it is the cutest thing these friendly giants do. And the cuddles. I would do anything for a day full of such cuddles! <3 The warmth in their hugs is also undeniable. They are love. Pure love. A lot of love. Big dog, bigger heart!

Fewer Exercises!!

Yes, you read it right. Given their huge structure, if you were of the mindset that these need an equally greater amount of time dedicated to physical activities, you were wrong. These large, big size dogs were bred to be guard dogs, which involves a lot of sitting around, therefore not much of exercising. Although, the time is always fun!

“Size doesn’t correlate to energy level. I own and breed Rhodesian Ridgebacks, for example, and as long as they get a nice long walk and some mental stimulation during the day, most adults are happy to lounge around in the house or apartment,” - Denise Flaim.
