You can easily take an Indian out of India, but you can never ever take ‘India’ out of an Indian. There is something very special about us. That can be seen when the hair on the arms rises after the national anthem or after Dhoni lifts his bat after winning a match. Yes. Patriotism. Indians can undoubtfully be concluded as the most patriotic people on earth. ‘India’ is not just our country, it is a part of us. It is there in every breath we take! Why forget it when coming to raising a pup? Let us look at why having Desi dogs is the best option.

They adapt to what is Indian
Everyone reading this will have at least one friend or relative who once went abroad and came back due to not being able to adjust in the foreign climate. Dogs also feel homesick! Each dog breed has special features and limitations based on the place where it was evolved. An American Eskimo dog, Akita or the Bernese mountain dog might look handsome and powerful, but little can they survive on the scorching heat of the streets of Delhi. Don’t worry! The Indian Spitz, Kombai and the Pariah can manage the Indian climate – may be even better than us!
Maintenance
Maintaining the Desi dogs is a relatively easier task. They do not need the training required for a Doberman or the care for a Pomeranian. Having a short coat and no undercoat, the Indian dog breeds can be bathed only once a week. They do not need to be taken frequently to the Vet or the trainer nor do they have any special food requirements. Along with time and effort, you can save a lot of money too!
Lifespan
Here is another good news for you! Most Indian breeds have a longer lifespan than their foreign counterparts. An average Kanni dog lives up to 17 years. Thus, you’ll be having a friend for a longer time.
Health
The Desi dogs are less vulnerable to major diseases and disorders. Most of the breeds are naturally evolved and therefore there are few diseases that can affect them. They require less grooming and are relatively clean by themselves. Also, they have no body odour. Less than 10% of the street dogs in India die due to diseases. Most of them die due to ageing and sadly a large percentage in road or railway accidents.
They do not shed
Most of the Desi dogs have a very short coat. Fur is also minimal. Therefore, they do not shed. Your house and backyards will be thus free of any fur, which in fact is a luxury to foreign dog owners.
Better guarding
The Indian dogs are smart, intelligent and good decision makers. Therefore, they make very good guard dogs. Some Indian breeds such as the Gaddi Kutta, which is, in fact, one of the most unique dog breeds in the world, has a very ferocious look and can frighten your trespassers to death!
They are as Desi as we are
Last but not the least, what is a more satisfying moment than showing the world that your best friend is as Desi as you are? As this article begun, you can never take out that ‘India’ out your heart, nether your dog’s!
